Zelensky at the UN: Putin Is “Patient Zero”

Claim: On Wednesday 23 September 2026 Volodymyr Zelensky opened his UN General Assembly speech by reading Donald Trump's Truth Social post that Russia had lost control of its diesel oil industry, with "a large number of their diesel refineries" blown up, and said: "And this is true. Russia messed up." A day earlier Trump had told the same hall: "We're working very closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, and we will get that one done." Zelensky gave Russia's losses from January to August as 248,964 killed and badly wounded, for just over a thousand square kilometres gained, and called Vladimir Putin "patient zero ... That is why patient zero must be stopped."
