What the reel says
Narration as scripted and voiced.
So, that's a big deal, I'm very proud of it, and I think, I don't know how it can be challenged, they'll probably challenge it, and you may find a rogue judge, a lot of rogue judges, very bad.
That was March in the Oval Office. The order he is holding would change how mail voting works in every state in America. Five months later, it is frozen by the courts. And the fight has landed at the Supreme Court 71 days before the midterms.
The order is called Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections. It tells Homeland Security to build a citizenship list for every state. It tells the Attorney General to prosecute election officials who mail ballots to anyone not on it. And it bars the Postal Service from delivering a ballot to any voter who is not enrolled.
The states, right, run these elections. They will, if they want to use the U .S. mail, the U .S. Postal Service, they're going to get a code, a barcode from the U .S. Postal Service, and they're going to put that on the envelope, and we will have one envelope per vote.
23 states and the District of Columbia sued within days, led by California. In June, a federal judge in Massachusetts froze the core of the order. In August, she halted the Postal Service work nationwide, and the appeals court refused to step in.
So the White House went over their heads. On July 27th, the Solicitor General asked the Supreme Court to switch the order back on. The government says the freeze is doing irreparable harm to election integrity. The states call the order a ballot interception program, unprecedented and legally indefensible.
The case is fully briefed. There is no hearing coming and there will be no warning. The decision can land any day now and it will decide how tens of millions of Americans vote this November.
