Nvidia Is Putting $100 Billion Into OpenAI, Its Own Customer.

Nvidia intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, released in $10 billion stages as OpenAI deploys 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems. The first gigawatt is due in the second half of 2026 on the Vera Rubin platform.

Critics call the structure "circular financing": the chipmaker funding the customer that buys its chips, which they argue makes real demand hard to separate from reinvested capital. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang disputes that characterisation, saying the company is securing long-lived infrastructure.

Separately under discussion and NOT signed: a reported $250bn lease guarantee for a 10GW SoftBank data centre in Ohio, and up to $350bn considered in GPU financing. OpenAI is shopping a valuation as high as $1.5 trillion while postponing a listing on safety grounds.

The reactor comparison is a scale comparison only, not a claim about how the sites are powered.

What the reel says

Narration as scripted and voiced.

Nvidia is putting up to a hundred billion dollars into OpenAI

Not as one check. In $10 billion stages released as OpenAI builds

Builds what exactly? 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems

For scale, a large nuclear reactor is about one gigawatt. This is ten of them in computers

The first gigawatt is meant to land in the second half of twenty twenty-six on a platform called Vera Rubin

I think it would be approximately as bad of an idea to say we're not going to have AI in our country as it was to say we're not going to have electricity in our country, you know, back 100 plus years ago.

That is the case for building it. The unease is about who is paying for it

Nvidia is the supplier. OpenAI is the customer. And now Nvidia is also the investor

Critics call that circular financing. Money that leaves Nvidia and comes back as Nvidia revenue

Nvidia's chief executive rejects the description. He says they are securing long-lived infrastructure, not buying their own sales

There is more under discussion, and none of it is signed. Nvidia has discussed guaranteeing as much as two hundred and fifty billion dollars in lease payments and is considering up to three hundred and fifty billion in financing for GPU purchases.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is shopping a valuation as high as one and a half trillion dollars while postponing a listing on safety grounds

None of it is signed. Nobody is hiding the structure. The argument is only about what it means
