"Keep my wife's name the hell out of your mouth." The vice president versus the Michigan Senate nominee, in their own words: the post that lit it, the rally answer, and the CNN reply. Nine weeks to November 3.
The sequence: after Vance invoked his grandfather and Sharia law in an Ohio speech (~Aug 21), Abdul El-Sayed posted, verbatim: "So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…" (Aug 22). At a MAGA Inc. rally in Sterling Heights on Aug 31, Vance said there is "something about Abdul El-Sayed that is very, very evil and on the rise in the United States of America today" — his stated reason, in the same remarks: "people who see themselves not as citizens of a common nation… but see themselves as fighting for one group at the expense of others" — and told him to keep his wife's name out of his mouth. On CNN's The Source (Sept 1), El-Sayed answered: "Evil is the idea of starting wars when there's peace" and said Vance "can go take himself back to Ohio."
The race: El-Sayed won the Democratic primary by about a point (AP call, Aug 5). Mike Rogers is the Republican nominee. Election day is November 3.

## The reporting

Claim (one): A live two-sided feud in the Michigan Senate race: after El-Sayed's Aug 22 post about Usha Vance (itself answering Vance's papaw/Sharia speech), the VP called him "very, very evil" and told him to keep his wife's name "the hell out of your mouth" at a Sterling Heights rally Aug 31; El-Sayed answered on CNN Sept 1. loopTail (El-Sayed, CNN): "And I think he can go take himself back to Ohio where apparently they like politics like that." loopHead (Vance, C-SPAN): "But whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife's name the hell out of your mouth because she's way out of your league." The wrap = the dismissal answered: he isn't going anywhere, still talking. loopSeam: match (El-Sayed CNN close → Vance C-SPAN podium).

## Transcript

But whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife's name the hell out of your mouth because she's way out of your league.
That is the Vice President of the United States in Michigan at war with the Democrats' new Senate nominee.
Ten days earlier, Vance had invoked his grandfather and Sharia law in a speech. El -Sayed answered with a post about the vice president's wife.
The race underneath is the midterm's other marquee. El -Sayed won his primary by a point. Mike Rogers is the Republican. Nine weeks to November 3rd.
And I think he can go take himself back to Ohio, where apparently they like politics like that.
