On 22 September, with the United States at war with Iran, Donald Trump told the General Assembly he had a decision to make. First, the deal.
But I have a big decision to make. Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before? Maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world.
Then the other road. And then a line that got far less attention than the threat.
Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations? But I believe we'll make a deal right after the election, because it doesn't make sense for them not to.
The next day, Iran's president, Massoud Pazeshkin, answered from the same rostrum in Persian. This is the United Nations interpretation.

On the 24th, John Dramani Mahama walked to that rostrum. He returned to Ghana's presidency in January 2025, and in January, he takes the chair of the African Union. Most of his speech was about Africa, and the seat it still does not have.
Mr. President, Security Council reform is not a favour to Africa. It is an imperative for the legitimacy, the credibility, and the survival of the United Nations.
The UN Charter must reign supreme over the cynical doctrine that might makes right. The veto power must never serve as a license for impunity.

Online it went further. In four days, at least a dozen uploads of the clip, many of them titled as a fight. Confronts. Fires back. Clash. And we found no response from the White House.

When our first President Osagipu, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, stood on the eve of our independence in 1957, he declared that the independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of the African continent. Today, from this respected global podium, we must expand that historic truth. The freedom of any nation is insecure unless it is linked to the freedom of all humanity.
A threat names one country. His last line names everyone. So here is the question he left in that hall. If the freedom of any nation is insecure unless it is tied to the freedom of all humanity, then when a leader threatens to annihilate a nation, who, exactly, is being threatened?
