The all-time North American box office record has belonged to Star Wars: The Force Awakens since 2015, at $936,662,225. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now at $926,770,888.
That is a gap of $9,891,337. One more weekend.
It already holds the other record. Its opening weekend took $360,091,572 across 4,487 theatres, the biggest domestic opening ever recorded. It passed Avengers: Endgame, which finished at $858,373,000, to sit second on the all-time chart. Worldwide it has taken $2,413,442,530, and 61.6% of that came from outside the United States.
The part worth staying for is the sixth weekend. It was still number one. Most blockbusters are finished by then.
And the record it is about to take belongs to Star Wars, in the same summer Star Wars released the lowest-grossing live-action film in its history: The Mandalorian and Grogu, $345.7 million worldwide on a reported $165 million budget.
Every figure here is nominal, not adjusted for inflation, which is how the all-time domestic chart is kept.

Domestic figures differ between outlets ($161.7M vs $177.7M), so the reel uses the WORLDWIDE figure only, which the sources agree on. Summer 2026 was among the biggest US summers on record (~$4.76B). Deadline and Variety describe it differently (a record vs second-best, against 2013's $4.755B) — the reel does not use this stat, because the sources disagree.
