# Poland's PM: The Next Strike On NATO Will Be Built To Look Like An Accident.

On 17 September 2026, Poland's prime minister Donald Tusk told the Sejm that Russia is preparing hybrid strikes, with drones and missiles, against European countries that support Ukraine, Poland among them, and that the strikes will be made to look accidental.
His stated reason: so that NATO members hesitate over whether the alliance is obliged to respond at all. In his own words to the chamber:
"Weakening NATO's integrity and above all convincing NATO states that Article 5 is more theoretical than practical."
Article 5 says an armed attack on one member is an attack on all. In NATO's entire history it has been invoked once, after 11 September 2001.
Tusk also said Russia has shifted to striking the border crossings that carry supplies into Ukraine, counting four such incidents on the Polish border in a single week, and several on Ukraine's border with Moldova.
Separately, Poland has sought a permanent American base for years. Washington has reported progress in the talks. Nothing is signed.
This is a warning about Russian intent, as assessed by Polish intelligence and presented by the prime minister to parliament. It is not a report of an attack that has happened.
