# Nvidia Is Putting $100 Billion Into OpenAI, Its Own Customer.

Nvidia intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, released in $10 billion stages as OpenAI deploys 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems. The first gigawatt is due in the second half of 2026 on the Vera Rubin platform.
Critics call the structure "circular financing": the chipmaker funding the customer that buys its chips, which they argue makes real demand hard to separate from reinvested capital. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang disputes that characterisation, saying the company is securing long-lived infrastructure.
Separately under discussion and NOT signed: a reported $250bn lease guarantee for a 10GW SoftBank data centre in Ohio, and up to $350bn considered in GPU financing. OpenAI is shopping a valuation as high as $1.5 trillion while postponing a listing on safety grounds.
