# Ghana's President Never Said Trump's Name. Here's What Happened Next

He never said Donald Trump's name. The hall applauded anyway, and the internet turned it into a showdown.
On 22 September, Trump told the UN General Assembly he might "annihilate the Islamic Republic" of Iran. Two days later, at the same rostrum, Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama said: "No human civilization deserves to be annihilated, and certainly not a member of the United Nations." Delegates applauded, and the UN's own feed cut to them clapping. Then he added: "I believe that dialogue can resolve even the most intractable of global problems."
Online, the clip spread to at least a dozen YouTube uploads, several of them titled as a confrontation. Ghana's press read it as a reply. AP said he "seemed to reference" Trump. As of 28 September we found no response from the White House. His speech names no one.
